MORE details can today be revealed of a prestigious cookery competition in which youngsters from Hartlepool could get to meet a top chef.
The Red Tractor beef and lamb Mmmake it with Mince Challenge will see six regional winners get to meet James Martin.
The competition is open to all students aged 11 to 16 years in Key Stages 3 and 4.
James said: “Last year was the most successful year of the competition with some outstanding recipe entries.
“Every year I am amazed at the creativity of everyone who enters and I can’t wait to see what students come up with this time.
“The competition is a great way to get some really important experience in the kitchen, learn about quality ingredients and also have some fun too.”
Prizes on offer include an iTouch and £200 of school kitchen equipment vouchers for first place winners, as well as cookery vouchers for second and third place.
James will also handpick a national champion from the six regional winners for the grand prize and they will win a chance to go behind the scenes at some of the country’s top restaurants.
All students who take part in the cook-off tour will also receive branded chefs whites and a James Martin cookery book.
Students must design and submit their own original recipes using Red Tractor beef or lamb mince. They can enter as individuals, or submit entries via their Food Technology teachers and schools.
The competition aims to demonstrate the ease and versatility of cooking with beef and lamb mince. All recipes are developed and cooked from scratch. The best entries will be invited to regional cook-off finals in November judged by James Martin and a panel of food experts.
