The price cut, effective from today, applies to all the supermarket chain's 272 petrol stations.

The supermarket is the only retailer that has a national price cap on fuel at all its filling stations.

Andy Peake, Asda’s senior director for petrol, said: “It’s the start of the summer holidays and we know families will be getting out and about all across the country, which is why we’re dropping the price of fuel”.

"Drivers will pay no more than 106.7 pence per litre for diesel and 105.7p on unleaded at any Asda forecourt across the country – regardless of their holiday destination.”
