HARTLEPOOL will feature on the first of a four-part series all about Britain’s part in the First World War tonight (Monday).
The documentary, presented by Jeremy Paxman, will focus on the bombardment of the Hartlepools by the German Navy just after 8am on December 16, 1914.
Jeremy made the trip to Hartlepool last year to discover more about the devastating attack which killed 119 people.
He also met Violet Muers, who sadly passed away in November aged 106, who had discussed with him her memories of the bombardment.
The first episode of Britain’s Great War will be broadcast on BBC1 at 9pm and we have been sent a clip of Violet taking to Jeremey about her memories.
The BBC described the coverage as the “biggest and most ambitious season to commemorate the World War One centenary”.
A preview screening was held at Hartlepool College of Further Education last week. Visit www.hartlepoolmail.co.uk to see exerts from the documentary from this afternoon.
