THE Queen celebrated her Coronation yesterday – the 60th anniversary of taking to the throne. The Mail spoke to people in Hartlepool to see what they think of the Royal family.

Ian Jennings, 41, a cleaner, from the Rift House area of Hartlepool, said: “The Royal family is one of the best things this country has, for the amount of money they bring into the country, tourism and patriotism, especially in this day and age.”

He added: “People should support them.”

Eighteen-year-old Kayleigh Sprintall, of Elwick Road, Hartlepool, said she likes to hear news about the Royals, particularly Kate Middleton and her pregnancy.

The health student said: “They’re smashing, especially Kate. She looked lovely on her wedding day didn’t she?”

Karen Carr, 44, a support worker from the Rift House area, of Hartlepool, is a Royals fan because they “inspire patriotism”. She particularly likes the two princes.

The mum-of-one said: “Prince Harry and William are young and a bit more up-to-date. They bring a bit of youth.”

Ben Strickland, 18, from South Fens, in Hartlepool, had mixed feelings about the Royals.

The English Martyrs Sixth Form College student said: “I think they’re good ambassadors for our country but I don’t really know what they do. The amount of expense incurred by them is not right.”
