HARTLEPOOL is set to be taken over by zombies for two spooky events aimed at raising vital cash for two good causes.
A terrifying Zombie Walk will take place around the streets of Hartlepool later this month followed by a Zombie Ball early next month and town residents are being urged to dig out their scariest costumes and join in the fun.
Last year more than 60 zombies took part in the first ever Zombie Walk and organisers want to make this year’s event bigger and better.
It is due to take place on Saturday, October 26, at 2pm outside Flix Movie Cafe, in Church Square, and will be raising money for Bradley Lowery, the two-year-old from Blackhall, who is battling childhood cancer neuroblastoma.
The two-mile route will take the zombies and ghouls from Flix around Hartlepool town centre and then back to the movie cafe, where people will be able to watch a spooky movie and the best-dressed zombies will be judged.
Both events have been organised by a team of fundraisers, including Katie Barrett, a play leader at Hartlepool Borough Council’s Oscar’s play service.
Katie said: “The family friendly Zombie Walk event is open to all ages from mini zombies to nearly zombies so let’s get everybody walking, shambling, shuffling and wandering around the town.”
There will be face painting on the day and people brave enough to take part will be encouraged to get sponsorship for their efforts.
Meanwhile, the Zombie Ball is taking place on Saturday, November 2, at the Corporation Club, in Whitby Street, and tickets are priced at £5 and include pie and peas.
All funds from the night - which will include a DJ, disco, dancers and games - is going to the Denise Taylor Cancer Trust, the charity was set up by inspirational Denise in 2009 before she sadly lost her battle with the disease.
Katie added: “Both events are going to be amazing and we are just encouraging as many people as possible to come along and join in the fun.
“The Zombie Ball is for over 18s only.”
