SUPER-SLIMMING couple Paul and Joyce Lincoln have shed almost 10 stones between them.

The pair, who have each overcome personal health battles, say losing weight is helping them on the road to recovery.

Super slimmers Paul and Joyce Lincoln from Wingate, who between them have lost nine and a half stone and made it through to the Slimming World finals.

In just 10 months, Paul, 58, has lost a whopping 6st 2lb, dropping from 19st 5lb to 13st 3lb, and Joyce now weighs 10st 7lb, having lost 3st 10lb from her starting weight of 14st 3lb.

The feat is even more impressive for the pair as Joyce, 56, has had two knee replacements following a road smash and Paul was medically retired from his civil servant job following problems with his back.

Paul was then diagnosed with heart failure, as the muscle that pumps blood around the body failed to function.

He is managing the problem with tablets, though medics told him a third of people will deteriorate, a third maintain the condition and a third can improve.

Joyce was involved in a collision with a van in Cambridgeshire, where she is originally from, when she was 27, and broke her femur, hip, pelvis, nose, fractured two ribs and sustained a fractured skull.

She was in hospital for three months and was left with one leg shorter than the other.

She also had to have her knees replaced.

But the couple, from Dobson Terrace, in Wingate, both say their new healthier lifestyle is helping make life more bearable.

The pair swapped fatty takeaways, convenience foods and sugary snacks for healthy meals made from scratch, with lots of fruit and vegetables.

Joyce, a part-time shop assistant who is mother to Kelly and Simon Fairburn from a previous marriage, said: “We would go out for dinner a lot and them come home and have doughnuts.”

Paul, who is dad to Victoria Delahunty from a previous marriage, added: “Now we have cut out bread, butter and fat and eat fruit and yoghurts and have salads in the summer. “Losing weight has certainly helped me. It might make me live another 10 years or so.”

Paul said he has gone down to the lowest size he has ever been, managing to fit in a size 34 waist, down from a size 46.

Joyce is now a size 12-14, having been size 18-20.

They were one of 27 couples from around the UK and Ireland to reach the national finals of Slimming World’s Couple of the Year competition.

Sadly the couple just missed out on the title.

But Alice Gough, who runs the Wingate Slimming World group, agrees they are both winners to have done so well reaching their personal goals.

She said: “I’m so proud of Paul and Joyce. “So many people, both men and women, are desperate to lose weight and improve their health and I hope that their story inspires lots of other couples to make a change.”
