HUNDREDS of women will once again test their fitness for charity in a seafront jog for a worthy cause.

Race For Life returns to Hartlepool on Sunday, June 30, when this year’s race starts at 11am.

Once again, it will be on the promenade at Coronation Drive and the race will be over a five kilometre distance.

Organisers say the event is being held to raise money to fund groundbreaking research into new drugs and treatments.

People are being urged to enter whether they run the course, jog it, walk it or even dance their way round.

Last year, the seafront at Seaton Carew was turned into a sea of pink as more than 1,300 dedicated women laced up their trainers and took part.

This year, Race for Life is being held by Cancer Research UK in partnership with Tesco and more than 230 events have been planned.

Emma Hyatt, Head of Race for Life, said: “Cancer touches us all – it does not discriminate between a person’s age, sex or background. It is the fear that we must all face up to.

By joining the collective force against cancer this summer, women can fight back and unite to defy cancer. It is now cancer’s turn to be afraid.

“All women, regardless of their age, shape or fitness level can lead the way along the 5k course and for those who want a bit more of a challenge there are 10k events available at 34 venues.

“Every step these women take at Race for Life will help to create more tomorrows for more loved ones, and every pound raised by their family and friends will help us to beat all 200 types of the disease.”

Race for Life has already raised £493m to fund Cancer Research UK’s life saving work since it began in 1994, but it does not stop there. In 2013 Cancer Research UK hopes to raise over £49 million.

Organisers say Cancer Research UK will keep on fighting until cures for all 200 types of cancer are found.
