THERE are certain things in life that you can bank on.
Hartlepool's hospital closing and Newcastle's shaky defence conceding the odd goal to name just a couple.
Another one of those certainties is having a belt-buster of a meal at Fellini's, in Middlesbrough's Linthorpe Road.
The fine Italian eatary ha
s become a firm favourite for my girlfriend, Rachel, and I.
Not just because of the generous portions but also the quality of food and impeccable service.
It is also easy on the purse strings, which is an added bonus.
Such is Fellini's popularity that we almost couldn't get a table on Friday evening because of the high demand.
We arrived at the restaurant shortly before 9pm and were invited to enjoy a drink in the upstairs bar before our meal.
The barman promptly told us when our table was ready and we were shown to our seats in the packed eating area.
Perusing the extensive menu set the taste buds tingling and there was plenty to choose from.
Despite the bustling atmosphere and high number of hungry punters, the staff made sure our drinks arrived swiftly and they were quick to take our order.
For her starter Rachel opted for white bate (£4.95), which saw the delicate seafood dish served with garnish, side salad and tartar sauce.
I slightly overfaced myself and opted for garlic bread with cheese (£3.75). Oozing in garlic butter, the 12in "appetiser" proved too much even for someone with my well-known gluttony.
We were given time to enjoy our drinks and let our first courses settle before the main dishes arrived.
Rachel ordered agnello di alba (£13.50).
A huge plate was filled with lamb rump, flavoured with garlic and onions,
It was served with rosemary, mint and a hint of cream, and was accompanied with a variety of freshly cooked vegetables and roast potatoes.
I went for went for pollo al pepe (12.25). A chicken breast came served in a peppercorn sauce with salad and chips.
Both meals were delicious and there was no way either of us could manage a dessert after such a feast.
Yet again, Fellini's didn't disappoint and all aspects of the meal and the service surpassed our expectations.
If there is one negative thing to say about the restaurant, it is that it is sometimes a bit too busy, which prevents you from being able to completely relax.
However, it needs to be said that no matter how many hungry customers are waiting to be fed, the staff are always first class.
