MIDDLESBROUGH are refusing to be drawn into a war of words with Paris St Germain over their pursuit of Didier Digard.
The frustrated Frenchman has hit out as his club, claiming they were delaying his proposed £4million switch to the Riverside Stadium because of a row over how the fee is to be paid.

However, PSG retaliated insisting they were awaiting bank guarantees from Boro and dismissing Digard's accusations.

Boro have declined to comment publicly on the development, although privately, they remain confident the deal will eventually be done.

Digard has been far from silent throughout Boro's pursuit and his impatience says much about the intentions of a man who only joined PSG from Le Havre last summer.

Injuries limited his participation last season and he will be keen to return to regular action.

Boro chief executive Keith Lamb, who conducts the detail of the club's transfer business, hopes to have up to three new signings in place by the time manager Gareth Southgate and his players return for pre-season training on Monday.

While Lamb and Southgate may have hoped to have the Digard transfer wrapped up some time ago, it is understood progress has also been made regarding Reading's James Harper and Sparta Rotterdam's Marvin Emnes.

The manager has identified midfield as his main priority after allowing Fabio Rochemback and Gaizka Mendieta to leave the club.
