NEW recruit Didier Digard scored a brilliant long-range winner as Middlesbrough beat Carlisle 2-1.
The sides had been level after Danny Carlton equalised following Jeremie Aliadiere's 46th-minute opener.

But French midfielder Digard, who joined from Paris Saint Germain earlier this summer, smashed home the decisive goal from 30 yards to earn Boro the win.

It was an impressive show by Boro, who started with Afonso Alves and Mido, who returned to action after missing the two games in Portugal last week.

Mido played the first 45 minutres at Brunton Park before making way for Tuncay.

There was no place for winger Stewart Downing, who has a niggly thigh injury.

Boro's Hartlepool-born full-back Andrew Taylor played 80 minutes, but Carlisle's Hartlepool-born full-back, Evan Horwood, was an unused sub for John Ward's side.
