Afonso Alves has warned that the goals will flow after the Brazilian striker finally broke his duck.
Alves scored a superb double in the 2-2 draw against Manchester United yesterday, his first goals for Middlesbrough, though he came close against Chelsea the previous weekend hitting both post and bar.

The 27-year-old broke numerous records at previous club Heerenveen in the Dutch leagues where he scored 45 goals in just 39 appearances, and insisted he never had any doubts about making it in the Premier League.

Alves said: "I'm very, very happy but I knew the goals would come.

"I just needed some time and patience, but I was not worried, even when I missed those chances against Chelsea, because I knew it was only a matter of time before I got goals.

"Naturally I am pleased to have scored against Manchester United but I would have preferred for the team to win. Now I just want to score against other teams as well.

"It was a good performance against Manchester United but it was not just down to me, the whole team worked hard."

Alves admitted the pace of the game in England came as a shock when he arrived in January but said he has now acclimatised.

He added: "In Holland and Brazil, it's not as fast and physical as it is in England. I'm getting used to it and looking forward to a successful career here.

"I have settled in very well and feel relaxed at the club."
