HARTLEPOOL Borough Council chief executive Paul Walker has been given a whopping £10,000 pay rise – despite swathes of cuts.
It takes his basic salary from £157,205 to £168,000 a year – higher than Prime Minister David Cameron, who earns £142,500.
The 6.8 per cent salary hike has been described as “morally indefensible” by union leaders while councillors and residents have also hit out.
The news comes as Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles revealed plans to slash the salaries of council staff earning more than £150,000 by five per cent.
