A LUXURIOUS £12m yacht set sail from Hartlepool after a brief stop over on route to Hong Kong.
The 115 feet Sunseeker Predator left town early yesterday morning after a four-day stay at Hartlepool Marina.
The new yacht, named Poppy Nanny, attracted a lot of attention from the public as it dwarfed all other boats berthed in the dock.
Allan Henderson, director of Hartlepool Marina, said: “There has been a constant stream of people looking and commenting on it. Quite a lot of people took pictures from Jacksons Landing.
“We are a convenient location for vessels to refuel or change crews. For anything travelling from the south to the north we are a good half way point.
“It is great that it was here, it puts the town on the map.”
The yacht will be delivered to its mystery owner in Hong Kong.
The marina drafted in extra staff to help guide the massive vessel out of the narrow lock gates.
From Hartlepool it sailed down to the Tees before it was lifted on to the back of a ship.
Before it left a handful of marina staff were allowed on board for a tour.
Allan added: “It’s spectacular. It is the sort of thing you would expect to see in Hong Kong harbour.”
