16-year-old dies following road collision

A TEENAGER has died after being hit by a car.

The 16-year-old boy suffered what police described as “serious injuries” following the crash in Wolviston Road, in Billingham, at 10.45pm last night.

The boy, a pedestrian from the Billingham area, was hit by a red Lexus car and was taken by ambulance to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, where he died this morning.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “A 16-year-old boy has sadly died in hospital following a collision last night in Wolviston Road, in Billingham.”

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash and have asked anyone with any information to contact Pc Darren Cawthorne, of the Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit, on the non-emergency 101 number, quoting reference number 054379.
