£20k drilling rig stolen from field

POLICE are appealing for information following the theft of a £20,000 piece of industrial equipment.

Detectives say a drilling rig, a piece of machinery used to bore holes or shafts in the ground, was stolen from a field off the A1185 at Marsh House Avenue, in Billingham.

The theft is said to have happened some time between 5pm on Friday, March 18, and 8.30am on Monday, March 25.

Police say a vehicle was driven towards a pylon 300ft into the field and thieves then removed the drilling rig from underneath the pylon.

The drilling rig is described as a Dando brand and was black with a red stripe.
