THE picture of Maria Pearson being a manipulative lair was painted by a second man in her life who was married to her during a bigamous ceremony while she was wed to Mr Travers.
Malcolm Pearson was at the centre of the 1987 murder trial after his bigamous wife blamed him for killing Janet Newton during repeated claims at Teesside Crown Court.

After Pearson was jailed for life for the murder of his building society clerk girlfriend he told the Mail she was a "compulsive liar" and he expected the barrage of allegations against him in court.

"She's not the type of person to admit anything," he said. "She's incapable of telling the truth even to save herself."

He also talked of their stormy relationship and said: "She just went from bad to worse.

"I was in a vicious circle from the start.

"She obviously despised me. She was anything, but in love.
"I can never forgive her."
