£400,000 drug farm: three in court

TWO men and a woman have appeared in court after they were arrested in connection with a £400,000 cannabis farm find.

Vu Van Pham and Phuong Lan Nguyen, both from Vietnam, appeared before Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged over the seizure of a class B drugs haul by police on Friday.

The pair were arrested at an address in Yarm over the weekend and were taken into police custody.

Van Pham, 23, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to produce cannabis on July 1, while Lan Nguyen was charged with conspiring to produce the drug as well as driving without a licence and driving without insurance on the same date.

Lan Nguyen gave her address in court as being Willow Brook Road, in London.

A third Vietnamese national, a man called Duc Van Nguyen, 44, of no fixed address, appeared before justices at Teesside Magistrates Court after being arrested and taken into custody on Friday.

He has also been charged with the production of cannabis, and with another offence of the production of cannabis at an address in Hexham.

Officers from Hartlepool drugs unit discovered the sophisticated stash of plants at a property down a country lane off the A19, opposite Elwick Village, on the outskirts of town, as reported by the Mail on Saturday.

The trio were all remanded in custody and had their cases transferred to Teesside Crown Court where they will next appear on July 12.
