A GROUP of parents were delighted after a donation from a building firm.
The Friends of Stranton group, made up of parents, teachers, school staff and governors from Stranton Primary School, Hartlepool, has been working tirelessly to raise enough cash to develop a new community room in the school.
The group has already received donations from a number of town companies.
But their campaign has received a huge boost after MKM Building Supplies handed over a cheque for £5,000. The money has put the group well on their way to reaching their £10,000 target.
Liz Killeen, deputy headteacher at the school, in Southburn Terrace, Hartlepool, helped to set up the Friends of Stranton group.
Mrs Killeen said: “We are working towards reaching our target for a new room in the school which can be used by the community.
“We really appreciate all the help and support local companies have given us and the donation from MKM is the icing on the cake.
“MKM have supported us immensely for a number of years and this is just another sign of their immense generosity towards Stranton School and Community Centre.”
The money was handed over to the group by Mick Sumpter and Lee Dees, directors of MKM Building Supplies, in Burn Road, Hartlepool.
Mr Sumpter said: “I was a governor of Stranton School for almost 20 years and have always taken a passionate interest in the school’s activities.
“After speaking with Liz I was so impressed with the excellent work the Friends of Stranton are doing in the school and in the community.
“With that in mind we were more than happy to pledge the money. These are difficult times for groups and charitable organisations. Budgets are being slashed and it’s good that local companies like ourselves can step in and support worthy causes such as this.”
