A MAN was due to appear in court today after a petrol station worker was threatened with a gun.

The 28-year-old man was expected to appear at Peterlee Magistrates' Court accused of attempted robbery following the incident at Hawthorn Services on the A19 south-bound, near to Easington.

During the attempted robbery, a man entered the garage shop and pointed a gun at 30-year-old sales assistant Amila Dayananda before demanding cash.

The suspect escaped without any money and the worker was unhurt during the incident, which happened around 10.10pm last Thursday.
