A THEATRE group which helps to put talented youngsters on stage is appealing for new members ahead of an ambitious project
The Footlights Youth Theatre is a registered charity that provides a means of educating youngsters in Hartlepool in stage production.
The group, which is based in the Stranton Centre, in Southburn Terrace, have unprecedented plans to perform two s
hows at the same time.
Theatre bosses are looking to produce the west end version of Boogie Nights and Disney's Jungle Book in February next year and rehearsals have already begun.
Youngsters of all ages are needed, and the chairman of the group is appealing for the young acting talent of the town to come forward.
Paul Thompson, chairman of Footlights Youth Theatre, said: "We are a theatre group for children with no experience, but who want to perform on stage.
"A lot of them can't afford to pay for specialist schools but enjoy coming to us. We are producing Jungle Book and Boogie Nights at the same time and it should be fantastic but we need more numbers in order to stage the shows.
"We have around 65 members so if we could get another 15-20 that would be fantastic.
"The youngsters don't need any experience – just a bit of enthusiasm."
The non-profit making organisation provides opportunities for young people aged between four-19 years to participate in all forms of performing arts.
The group's main focus is dancing, singing and drama but there is also a lot of emphasis placed on theatrical makeup, set design, sound detail and lighting.
Footlights have just completed a successful week-long run of Sleeping Beauty at the Town Hall Theatre, in Raby Road, Hartlepool.
Rehearsals for the new productions take place at the Stranton Centre on Monday and Tuesday nights. The four to nine-year-olds rehearse between 5.30pm-7.30pm and the 10-19 year-old group from 5.30pm-8pm.
