FIREFIGHTERS and nursing home staff have joined forces to raise cash for a cancer charity.
Ten workers at the Bannatyne Lodge nursing home in Manor Way, Peterlee, have teamed-up with firefighters from Peterlee Fire Station's Red Watch to launch a charity calendar.

The calendar will be sold to raise money for the home's residents fund as well as for the Chyrelle Addams Breast Cancer Appeal Fund.

Chyrelle, whose real name is Pat Greensmith, regularly performs to residents at the home as part of Bannatyne Lodge's weekly entertainments.

The 46-year-old from Willington, near Crook, discovered a lump while on holiday in May last year.

For February, Dawn Minto, the home's activities co-ordinator, is pictured in a wheelbarrow, May has a firefighter helping one the home staff members with the dishes and June has singer Chyrelle posing with two firefighters.

September has a firefighter helping the home's handyman to change a light bulb and October shows home manager Donna Remmer holding a hose.
The pictures were taken by Mail photographer Frank Reid.

Ms Minto said: "The calendar looks absolutely brilliant. We have been round getting orders off people already.

"We rang and asked the fire brigade to help as we thought it would be good to involve them as part of the local community.

"Chyrelle is a lovely, brave girl and we jumped at the chance to help raise money for her appeal."

The calendar is priced £5.50 and available by ringing the home on (0191) 5869511.
