A DAD-of-one killed in a tragic cycling accident has been described as "one in a million" by his devastated family.
Kevin Bratt, 51, died after being involved in a smash as he cycled along a quiet country lane.

Mr Bratt, who lived in the Brierton area of Hartlepool, leaves wife Lynne and son Craig, 26.

His devastated widow said: "Kevin was a kind, loving husband and father. He was such a genuine man, born and raised in Hartlepool. He was well-known and liked throughout the community.

"Kevin was passionate about football, a lifelong Newcastle fan and he loved to go bird watching and listen to music. He will be missed by all.

The tragedy happened just after 5pm on Saturday as Mr Bratt was cycling along Dalton Back Lane, between Dalton Piercy and Greatham, near Hartlepool.

A red Suzuki Swift car was involved in the accident and while the driver of the vehicle was not injured, police say he was left "traumatised".

Although some witnesses have come forward, police are appealing for anyone else with information to get in touch.

Officers would particularly like to speak to the driver of a black or dark coloured 4x4 Land Rover-type vehicle seen in the area at the time, coming from the direction of the A689.

PC Andrew Lawson said: "The driver of the 4x4 flashed another witness, as if to say there's something round the corner.

"I know they are not involved in this incident. I would like to speak to them as witnesses."

Police would also like to hear from anyone who saw the collision and have not yet come forward or who saw the Suzuki or a male on a silver mountain bike on or around the location before the collision.

PC Lawson said: "The cyclist was going towards the A689. We can't say which way the car was going. The red Suzuki stopped at the scene.

"There was just one man in the car and he is helping with inquiries."

Anyone with any information about the accident is asked to contact PC Lawson on (01642) 301552.
