CHARITABLE golfers have chosen to club together to raise cash in memory of a tragic youngster.
Hartlepool Golf Club decided to raise money for the Peterlee-based Clarke Lister Brain Haemorrhage Foundation after the charity supported club captain Peter Chapman, who suffered from the condition.

The foundation was set up by Carole Lister in memory of her 10-year-old son Clarke, who died from a brain haemorrhage in 1996.

Clarke had just finished watching a football match when he collapsed in the street after the haemorrhage.

Hartlepool Golf Club will be hosting a series of fundraisers in the next 12 months to raise money for the foundation after Peter Chapman chose it as his nominated charity.

Peter had a brain haemorrhage in 2001 and said he is indebted to the help that Carole and the foundation provided.

Mr Chapman, 51, from the Hart Lane area of Hartlepool, said: "When I became captain it was an easy decision to nominate the Clarke Lister Foundation as my charity for the year.

"Anything I can do to make more people aware of the work they do can only be a good thing. They gave me a lot of counselling and there was a lot of group sessions with other sufferers.

"The foundation gave me the confidence to move on with my life and I wanted to support the fantastic work that they do."

Carole Lister, of Lumley Drive in Peterlee, said: "Peter has supported the charity since his brain haemorrhage in 2001 and he wanted to put something back into the charity.

"We are really pleased with Peter's recovery and we are overwhelmed that he has nominated us as his chosen charity."

Hartlepool Golf Club will be hosting a series of charity nights, sportsman's dinners and golf days over the next year and are hoping to raise between £2,500 to £5,000 for the foundation.
