COUNCIL chiefs are to investigate claims that drivers are making a woman's life hell by parking on a grass verge near her home.
Mum of one Julia Clark said she was told when she bought her home in Mountston Close, Hartlepool, that an area of grassed land beside her property should not be used for parking.

But she says she has since been plagued by motorists parking on the land, and has even tried to buy the plot and fence it off in a bid to halt her woes.

Mrs Clark, who works as a cleaner and dinner lady, said: "It wasn't bad when I first moved in and it has gradually got worse.

"It is constantly full of cars and we have also had vans on it. All I can hear is doors banging and I have the fumes."

She added: "If I knew it was going to be like this I wouldn't have bought my house.

"I want people to have a bit of consideration, I have asked them before but they carry on parking right up to my fence.

"They can park around the edge and not right up to the fence."

Mrs Clark, who is married, has twice tried to buy the land from Persimmon Homes but said she was told she must first have permission from Hartlepool Borough Council to fence it off even though she doesn't own it.

But the council says it is unlikely she will get permission to fence the land as the council has a policy to protect green areas.

A spokesman for Hartlepool Borough Council said: "Mrs Clark approached us and we advised her that planning permission would be required to fence it off.

"We also advised her that planning permission would be unlikely to be granted as it would result in the loss of an open space which is intended to contribute to the overall appearance of the area.

"However we also advised her that she still has a right to submit a planning application.

"The council will investigate the issue of the car parking."
