YOUTH worker Michelle McIntyre has just eight weeks to get in shape for her first ever charity event – the gruelling Great North Run!
The novice fundraiser is now hoping someone will help her train for the September 20 half marathon which attracts tens of thousands of fun runners and also some of the world's top distance athletes.

The 23-year-old decided to raise money for Hartlepool Hospice to recognise the care her cancer-stricken granddad John McIntyre has been receiving at the centre and also at Brierton Lodge where he now stays.

The 78-year-old is suffering from lung cancer and has other serious illnesses and Michelle said the support and care he has been shown by staff made her determined to raise money for the hospice.

She has secured a place in the annual fundraising event through the hospice's allocation of places.

Having never done any training or serious jogging she is now looking for a coach or trainer to help her shape up for the 13-mile run between Newcastle and South Shields.

Michelle, who works for Hartlepool Borough Council and is currently working with the youth service Connexions, said: "There's no going back now. My boyfriend Matt and my friends have their doubts but I'll do it.

"I have got my official entry papers through the hospice and I really want to raise as much as I can.

"The staff truly are angels and the work they do and the support they give to people is amazing.

"It costs so, so much to run the hospice and every pound I raise will help towards that."

Michelle is hoping that someone can help her with a basic fitness or training regime and offer her some help and advice to help her make the distance.

She added: "I need someone to give me some tips and advice as I've never done anything like this before."

IF you can help Michelle with a fitness or training programme event contact Paul Watson on 01429 239384 or email paul.watson@northeast-press.co.uk.
