A POPULAR cycle route has been upgraded in the battle to get more people on their bikes.
Improvements costing around £11,000 have been carried out on a 1,800ft stretch of the Hart-to-Haswell Walkway in the north of Hartlepool.
Resurfacing work has meant the path, which forms part of the National Cycle Network, is now smoother and easier to walk and cycle along.
The work has been funded with money from Hartlepool Council’s Local Transport Plan.
Local Transport Plan co-ordinator Alec Gough said: “We aim to increase the number of people in the town who cycle regularly, and, hopefully, works such as this will encourage them to do so.”
