FOOTBALL fans are building up to a centenary celebration.
Supporters of Hartlepool United have been buying engraved bricks for the last month with scores of fans taking part in the Centenary Walk promotion.
The personalised bricks will be slotted into a path outside the club's main office at Victoria Park during the summer months to mark 100 years of Pools.
More than 200 bricks have been sold and club chiefs are delighted with the sales that will see valuable funds going straight to the club's youth development programme.
A spokeswoman for the club said: "It's going really well. Lots of fans have bought their bricks already. Over 200 have been sold and they are still selling strongly."
And she says the bricks are proving to be popular gifts with everything from new babies to anniversaries being celebrated in baked clay.
"They have become a popular way to mark an event but a lot of people are just buying them for themselves. They want to feel part of the club and the brick means a part of them is always at the ground," she added.
Pools legends Michael Barron and Ken Johnson have been given the honour of getting the first two bricks and they hope hundreds more will follow in their footsteps.
The bricks are being laid in three phases with the first batch set to be cemented in place by the end of July.
Bricks are available in two sizes and with black or gold text. Prices range from £40 to £85.
Application forms are available from the club's ticket office on Clarence Road.
People can also ring the club on (01429) 272584 for further details.
