HARTLEPOOL United have made a breakthrough in the transfer market just eight days before the start of the League One campaign.
Chris Turner today clinched the signing of Hartlepool-born left-back Evan Horwood after a successful three-week trial spell with the club.
The 24-year-old becomes the first outfield player to sign for Pools this summer and will make his maiden appearance as a contracted member of the squad at York City tomorrow.
There was interest in Horwood from Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen along with clubs in both League One and League Two.
But Pools were always the first choice for the former Sheffield United defender after his release by Carlisle during the summer.
Pools are yet to complete moves for Horwood's fellow trialists Paul Murray and Fabian Yantorno, who Turner is also keen to sign.
