FOOTBALL club bosses have thanked generous supporters after raising £5,000 for this year's Poppy Appeal by auctioning off a unique strip.
Hartlepool United wore the one-off orange Nike strip in the recent FA Cup first round tie against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The shirts, which featured a poppy motif, were worn by Danny Wilson's men in support of the British Legion's Help For Heroes campaign.
Following the game, club bosses put the majority of the shirts on internet auction site, Ebay, and supporters had 10 days to bid for their favourite players' top.
The auction raised £3,725 but the final amount was topped up with proceeds from a raffle for a match-worn Gary Liddle shirt, which raised an extra £1,200.
Club captain Ritchie Humphreys' shirt went for almost £600, and a number of other players' shirts topped the £200 mark.
A spokesman for Hartlepool United said: "It has been an absolutely fantastic response from our supporters and we have had some truly staggering bids.
"A number of shirts went for more than £200 and Ritchie Humphreys' went for the best part of £600.
"The club is delighted to have raised this amount of money for a very worthwhile cause and we will be looking to do it again in the future."
The money is expected to be handed over the to the British Legion in the next few weeks.
Every successful bidder has been invited to Victoria Park for Pools' game with Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, November 25, where they will be presented with their prize.
Auction winners will also receive two tickets to the match with pre-match hospitality at the ground.
The exclusive kit is different to Pools' new third kit, and it was worn as a one-off for the Brighton clash, which ended 3-3.
