A PUPIL has been temporarily excluded from school after police were called in after a playground incident.
Two pupils were involved in the incident at Jesmond Road Primary School, in Percy Street, Hartlepool, on Wednesday morning.

It is understood that one pupil was injured by what is believed to be a blade from a pencil sharpener.

Police confirmed they attended an incident but are not taking any further action.

School staff are now conducting their own investigation.

A school spokesman said: "We can confirm that an incident took place in the school playground between two pupils during which one received a small graze to the skin.

"The school treats all such incidents seriously and following the incident one pupil has been temporarily excluded.

"The school is now conducting an investigation and the police have been informed."

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: "The police did attend and as far as we are aware no further action will be taken.

"The incident is being dealt with by the school."

No teachers or parents at the school were prepared to comment when approached by the Mail.
