STAR learners are being sought to enter an awards ceremony aimed at celebrating their achievement.

The deadline to enter or nominate anyone from Hartlepool in the Learndirect Achievement Awards ends in weeks.

Organisers are calling for individuals, businesses and Learndirect centres to nominate themselves or others who have learned new skills through the service.

Learndirect offers online learning courses and training to people over 16 through businesses and advice centres.

BBC TV presenter Sharon Barbour, who presented awards at last year's North East England ceremony, said: "The learners I met at last year's achievement awards were truly inspirational figures.

"I would encourage anyone who knows a learner, a business offering training through Learndirect or a Learndirect centre to nominate them for an award."
