A JUNIOR football team is appealing for more players after they were unable to field a full team for their first match of the season.
The Dyke House Juniors Under 11s team is desperate to welcome some new members into its club to have fun training and playing matches against teams from across Teesside and County Durham.
The team was set to play Kader FC Juniors from Acklam in Middlesbrough last Saturday and although they have recently had nine players they only had six, which is lower than the seven that is the minimum needed to field a team.
Coach Peter Conroy has urged youngsters to come forward and join the club.
He said: “We have had nine players signed up but last week we had some away and that left us with six.
“Although its 11-a-side we can play with a minimum of seven, but we desperately need more players.
“It is a friendly club and all the children get on well together. It is a chance for them to socialise with people their own age and just have a laugh and play football.
“Too much effort has gone into the team to terminate it now, and I don’t want to disappoint the kids that play now.”
The team meets at Grayfields, off Chester Road, in Hartlepool, every Saturday morning from 10.15am until midday, and, during the summer months, on a Wednesday from 4.30pm until 6pm.
Clare Jarvis, 30, whose son Luke Jarvis, 10, is enjoying his first season for the under 11s team, said the sporty youngsters are desperate to have some new team-mates.
She said: “It’s a really nice friendly group of kids some of who have come from the Dyke House under 9s team and others have come from elsewhere.
“They all love working as a team and it’s always fun and entertaining. There’s a good team spirit.
“It’d just be great if we could get some more players to join in with the training and playing league matches.”
Subs cost just £2 per week and boys or girls, and players of all abilities, are wanted to join up.
