STORE staff are urging residents to call in for a cuppa and raise vital cash for a cancer charity.

Staff at Boots, in Anchor Retail Park, on Hartlepool Marina, organised three vintage coffee mornings to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The first coffee morning was held yesterday and events will also take place today and tomorrow from 11am-3pm.

The events have all been organised with a theme of The Great Gatsby.

Lisa Avery, a member of staff at the Boots store, said: “We wanted to organise a fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support and with The Great Gatsby proving so popular at the cinema at the minute, we thought it would be good to hold some vintage coffee mornings.

“We don’t really have a target of how much we want to raise.

“We just wanted to raise some cash for a fantastic charity, so obviously the more we get the better.”

Every year Macmillan Cancer Support holds its World’s Biggest Coffee morning event to boost cash for the cause.

Last year the event raised a staggering £14,957,191. Hartlepool and East Durham residents can play their part again this year when the event takes place on Friday, September 27. To support the charity visit www.macmillan.org.uk.
