“IT’S really princessy,” said Elizabeth Richardson as she looked over a fairytale wedding carriage.

Our 23-year-old winner of the Bride of the Year competition, run in conjunction with Robert Usher Photography, was with her fiance Liam Turnbull as they visited Dream Day Carriages, a Hartlepool company based in Usworth Road.

It will provide the horse and carriage for Elizabeth’s big day.

She will use it to arrive at her wedding venue with her stepfather Kevin Harris for her ceremony next month.

She has already decided on the smaller two-seater Victorian carriage but just as exquisite is the larger Landau.

Both have that wow factor and Dream Day Carriages owner Tony Simpson admits: “It is wonderful when people tell us that we have helped to make their day perfect for them. That makes our day as well.”

Dream Day Carriages, based in Usworth Road, was formed five years ago. Tony said: “No-one was providing that type of business at the time and the opportunity was there. Since then, we have gone from strength to strength.”

The company now handles around 20 weddings a year and makes sure those little extra touches are added, such as co-ordinated ribbons and flowers to match the bride’s colour theme.

The bride also gets a choice of coach driver for the day and Tony is one of the options available, while fellow worker Louise Salmons will be there on the day to help Elizabeth with important little touches such as safely getting on and off the carriage.

Tony added: “We like to keep in touch with the couple right up until the wedding to make sure everything is going well. We keep in touch in case they want any changes.”

Speaking about our competition, Tony added: “It is good for people and it is good for Hartlepool people. We have been involved in the competition before and it is great to be part of that.”

Elizabeth added: “We have been shown the carriages and they are beautiful. We also met the Dream Day Carriages staff and they were all really friendly.”

Elizabeth and Liam’s big day is now a matter of six weeks away and the excitement is growing.

The Grand Hotel, in Hartlepool, is the venue for the wedding of 23-year-olds Liam and Elizabeth who will marry on Friday, September 16.

It will be the culmination of months of planning for the Chester Road area duo who won the Bride of the Year competition – and the £10,000 package of prizes that goes with it.

Elizabeth’s story struck a chord with readers when we told how she was rushed into hospital last November after developing blood clots following a routine childbirth.

Just days after giving birth to her son, Noah, her left leg turned completely black.

She was rushed to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, where she was found to have four clots on her left lung, two on her right lung, and deep vein thrombosis in her leg.

Doctors told her she could die, especially on the first night when every minute was critical.

She pulled through and said it was largely down to the support shown by the man she loved, her fiance Liam. Since then, Elizabeth’s planning has been beset by illnesses but she is now well on the road to recovery.
