COMMUNITY centre leaders have lined up another live musical treat to encourage more visitors and boost much-needed funds for repairs.

Managers of Greatham Community Centre are working to raise money for the village community centre as they prepare to take over the lease.

Next month, the centre managed by Greatham Community Association will play host to Encore! – a live music event with a French flavour.

The show, on Saturday, October 20, will feature performers Maggi Stratford and Daniel Bowater and will bring some of the best loved songs of France to life.

The event at the community centre in Front Street is being supported by Rural Arts.

It is the latest in a series of events brought to the village to raise funds for repair work.

Brian Walker, treasurer of Greatham Community Association said: “It is all about trying to get the community centre used more by trying different things.

“We thought this was a little bit different.

“We have got a lot of repairs that need doing before any major work that we need grants for.

“We are just keeping our heads above water so any extra money we get is invaluable.”

Encore! will feature singing, and music on the piano, guitar and accordion, as it aims to create a café-cabaret atmosphere.

Audience members also add to the atmosphere by going dressed as French characters and there will be a prize for the best.

Encore! starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £10 and £8 concessions and there will be a licensed bar laid on.
