AN airport has launched a promotion campaign to let people know “The World’s on Your Doorstep”.
Durham Tees Valley Airport, with support from Tees Valley Unlimited and its local authority partners, including Hartlepool Borough Council, has joined forces with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines for the cmpaign.
KLM operates a three-times-a-day service to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, which is the airline’s award-winning hub airport and aimed at telling passengers they can travel across the world using the airline.
The airport’s recently appointed chairman, Robert Hough, said: “We all recognise that one of our most important assets is the long-standing commitment of KLM to Durham Tees Valley and the importance of their service to the area’s economy.
“That is why, as one of our first priorities, we have worked with the airline to develop a joint marketing campaign aimed at highlighting that, wherever you want to be in the world, whether for business or leisure, you can get there with KLM from Durham Tees Valley.”
Vincent Kas, commercial director for Air France/KLM UK and Ireland, said: “The World on Your Doorstep campaign heralds a new and intensified co-operation between KLM and Durham Tees Valley Airport. The airport is a key asset for the region and KLM offers passengers three times daily quick and hassle-free connections to its extensive worldwide network.
“KLM has historic ties with the region that hark back to 1974. The new ownership of the airport means a renewed partnership with KLM and local stakeholders which will further consolidate KLM’s leading position in the North-East.”
The Air France/KLM group operates flights from 14 cities in the UK to their hubs in Paris and Amsterdam and is continuously investing in expanding its worldwide network.
KLM’s latest new destination is Lusaka, the Zambian capital, which will be offered through Amsterdam Schiphol airport from May 15.
Building on the ‘World on Your Doorstep’ campaign has seen senior representatives from the airport and KLM brief representatives from local businesses and organisations.
