It’s the most wonderful time of the year and children can get ready for Santa’s arrival in Hartlepool in a spectacular way on Christmas Eve.
HMS Trincomalee is planning its own showing of the magical film Polar Express.
And children can enjoy it in the Captain’s Cabin on board the ship just before Father Christmas sets off on his journey.
The magical event is planned at 5pm on December 24. Children are being encouraged to come along in their pyjamas, and to bring along their Teddy bears and blankets.
As they get ready to watch the film, they will be handed hot chocolate and cookies to really add to the festive falvour.
And then, when it is all over, they will get a present from Santa Claus as well as a bag of reindeer dust to take home.
People like to get their children tired out for Santa coming on Christmas Eve. Kids can come along in their pyjamas and watch the filmLeanne McBean
The “first” for the historic ship is the brainchild of Leanne McBean, a mother-of-two from Hartlepool.
She said: “People like to get their children tired out for Santa coming on Christmas Eve.
“Kids can come along in their pyjamas and watch the film.”
Leanne has two children of her own - Kenzie Jowsey, aged eight, and Brooke Jowsey, aged six - and has been a tour guide at the historic ship since January last year.
She said: “I just thought this was a good idea which would bring people into the ship.”
Fifty people will get to watch the film in the event called the HMS Trincomalee Magical Christmas Eve Journey.
Tickets are limited and are available at £6 each via the Trincomalee website or by calling in to the booking office at the ship based at Jackson Dock within the Hartlepool’s Maritime Experience.
Accompanying parents who do not want to watch the film, are free of charge, and a bar will be open where drinks such as mulled wine will be available.
Anyone wanting to book tickets for Polar Express should visit the website at www.hms-trincomalee.co.uk or call into the ticket office.
