All set for carnival fun at the Headland

CARNIVAL committee members are counting down the days to the launch of this year’s festivities.

The Hartlepool Carnival runs on the Headland from this weekend until Sunday, August 10.

On Saturday night, Gaiety’s Bar on Northgate holds the final of the Stars in their Eyes event while the Headland Social Club is the venue for the Miss carnival pageant.

The same venue hosts the final of the Carnival Quiz League on Wednesday, July 30, while one of the highlights comes the next day when the giant funfair is opened on the Town Moor.

On Saturday, August 2, the Bonny baby competition is held at the Headland Club along with a table top sale, then the following day between 1pm-4pm in the Town Square there will be a family funday.

The Family Treasure Dig takes place on the Fish Sands between 10am-12pm on Monday, August 4, with the Sandcastle Design event on the same time the next day.

Cash prizes are up for grabs at the Childrens’ Talent competition at the Headland Club on Wednesday, August 6, with the Carnival princess event taking place at the Victoria Arms from 1pm-5pm.

Houses and businesses can win prizes for being the best dressed when judging takes place around the Headland from 5.30pm on Friday, August 8, while funds raised from a charity wax night at The Cosmopolitan on the same night will go to the carnival committee and the Great North Air Ambulance.

The Parade Day takes place on Saturday, Augsut 9, then festivities come to an end with the return of the raft race on Sunday, August 10.
