Garry Lee Taylor has not done bad for a lad from a former pit village – he is now performing to sell-out shows as Elvis Presley in Sweden.

Garry holds the title of Sweden’s most successful and longest running sold-out Elvis show.

It all started last year when a friend asked vocalist Garry to open a new ‘rock n roll’ themed restaurant and he agreed to perform eight shows as Elvis.

But it didn’t stop there – the Elvis show was so popular that he went on to perform the show five days a week for eight months.

Garry, 49, who even has a son called Elvis, said: “I had only originally been booked to do eight shows, but within an hour of putting the dates on Facebook, we were sold out. My friend kept calling and calling and asking ‘can you put an extra show in?’ and from May to December we were fully booked.”

And shows running so far this year have already sold out. Garry, who started out drumming at Trimdon Workingmen’s Club aged just 14, left Trimdon in 1986, having been spotted by an agency in Leeds.

He performed as himself in countries including Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway and Sweden before falling for a Swedish girl and making the country his home.

After a hit single, he was tipped for further success before deciding to quit the business and concentrate on his family, including wife Maria, and children Tanya, Elvis and Sam.
