POLICE and a council are working on securing allotments after receiving reports of intruders on plots.
A number of sightings have been made of people rummaging around allotments in the King Oswy area of Hartlepool.
No thefts have been reported, but police are urging plot holders to keep their sites secured, take any valuables home with them and report any suspicious activity.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “We are aware of a number of incidents at the allotments and are working in partnership with Hartlepool Borough Council to improve security at the site.
“Damaged locks on the site have been repaired immediately and tenants have been advised to ensure that all gates are locked from dusk to dawn and to report all incidents to the police.
“Additional measures are also being considered, such as limiting vehicle access through the site and improving the gates.”
