HARTLEPOOL boxing champion Amanda Coulson will help inspire students to success in a new role.
Amanda is one of 48 athletes who have been signed up as a mentor who will go into schools as part of Sky Sports Living for Sport initiative.
Mentors have been specially chosen because of their inspiring journeys to success.
They will visit secondary schools to motivate pupils and encourage them to apply the life lessons they have learned through sport.
Amanda, 2011 Great British women’s boxing champion, said: “I hope that students from North-East returning to school this autumn, will have a new enthusiasm for PE and sport, and that I can use my role as an athlete mentor to demonstrate how sport can be used to help improve all areas of their lives.
“As an athlete mentor, my focus is very much on imparting the wider skills that can be learned through sport.
“I am really looking forward to meeting students from across North-East this year and am sure they will prove to be as much of an inspiration to me as I am to them.”
This year is set to be the biggest ever for the initiative, which aims to send athlete mentors to 1,500 secondary schools in the UK.
