NEW rail services could be on the way to Hartlepool and east Durham if ambitions plans get on track.
Tees Trains, a new community interest company, has put together proposals to bring new rail services to the area.
The company, which is based in Castle Eden and has four directors, would apply for private funding for its own trains and money from authorities such as regional development agencies or European funding for stations.
It proposes new rail services which include a route linking east Durham, Hartlepool, Billingham and Teesside plus a route that includes Durham Tees Valley Airport and Hartlepool and east Durham.
Tees Trains’ plans also include provision of two new stations at Hart Station and Blackhall Rocks and one at Old Billingham. Castle Eden man David Masterman, one of the directors, has 20 years’ experience in the railway industry. He said the plans are in the very early stages.
Mr Masterman added: “We are getting all the licences and permissions to run services and become a train-operating company.
“It will probably be a couple of years before we are in a position to start running services.”
