A sea of more than 1,100 women dressed in pink will grace the Hartlepool seafront next weekend.

That’s how many people have entered the town’s Race for Life event so far this year, but organisers would love to hear from even more.

People can sign up all this week and on the day. So far, we have 240 in the 10k and 850 in the 5k.

Would-be runners can enter all this week, including on the day of the race which is this Sunday.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco for the past 15 years, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k and 10k events which raises millions of pounds every year.

Last year, 1,230 women in Hartlepool pulled on their trainers and helped raise over £65,000 for life-saving research.

So far this year, 240 people have signed up for the 10k event and 850 for the 5k run, said area event manager Katie Palmer. Officials are hoping to match last year’s fundraising total.

Katie added: “Our message to people is to come forward and sign up.”

Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

Thanks to advances in research, more people in the North East are surviving cancer than ever before.

But to help even more people survive, Cancer Research UK needs continued support.

Women and girls of all ages and abilities can take part by walking, jogging or running to raise money to help beat over 200 types of cancer affecting men, women and children.

All women are welcome by taking part either on their own or as part of a group.

For the first time, both the 5k and 10k races in Hartlepool will start at the same time, which is 11am at the promenade on Coronation Drive, Hartlepool, on Sunday, July 3.

Entry fees are £14.99 for women who are aged 16+. The cost for girls aged from six years to 15, and boys aged 12 or under, is £10.

For girls and boys who are aged under six, entry is free and no registration is needed.

Anyone wanting to enter Race for Life should visit the website at www.raceforlife.org or call 0300 123 0770.
