THESE men waded up their necks as they risked their lives to save more than a dozen sheep and a horse from rising floodwater.
The three men save 13 sheep and the horse last night as Billingham Beck burst its banks and measured up to 6ft-deep in places.
Freelance photographer John Burrows, 31, could not believe his eyes when he arrived at the scene and pictured the men as they battled to rescue the animals.
Mr Burrows, from Norton, said: “I drove by the A19 and saw some allotments flooded.
“I was just going to to take some landscape shots and I saw these guys saving the sheep and a horse.
“They had already pulled the horse out and there was 13 sheep.
“They were literally up to their necks in water.”
The breathtaking pictures were taken around 5pm just as police were closing the Billingham slip road off the A19.
“I managed to get down there before any roads were closed,” said John, who described the scene as “all hell breaking loose”.
