Appeal after boy attacked

POLICE are appealing for information into reports a nine-year-old boy was assaulted in the street.

The youngster was left with injuries to his hand after the attack in Chapel Hill Road area of Peterlee.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the attack and would like to speak to a woman who was walking her dog in the area.

Detective Sergeant Joanne Long, of Peterlee CID, said: “Our inquiries suggest a woman wearing a pink coat was walking a spaniel dog in the Chapel Hill area at the time the incident took place. I would urge her to contact police as she could have information vital to our investigation.”

The assault took place at about 7.30pm on Wednesday.

A 54-year-old local man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is being questioned at Peterlee Police Station.
