THE singing group at Hartfields Retirement Village is on the lookout for a new music coach.
The 14-strong group, which has been running for more than a year, had a coach for five weeks who led their sessions but she left recently.
Members, the oldest of which is 91, are hoping to make the right notes at a number of events they were planning throughout the year, but have now put those plans on hold until they find a new coach.
Singing group member Angela Cusworth, who lives at Hartfields Retirement Village with her mum, Teresa Owens, 73, also a member of the group, said they only need a coach to commit to an hour each week.
Angela, who is a mum of Samantha Cusworth, 30, said: “We don’t want to read music.
“We could just do with someone coming in to coach and tell us when to come in and that sort of thing.
“It’s quite difficult when we try to practice without anyone there overlooking it.”
The singing group likes to put on a concert at Christmas time and at different stages throughout the year.
“We like to organise events so then we have something to target,” said Angela, who is the youngest member of the group.
“But at the minute it’s tough because we don’t have a coach.
“It’s not a full-time role, it would just be a case of someone coming in for one hour each week whenever it suits them.
“We don’t have much funding but we would be able to pay for the travel expenses for them as long as they aren’t coming from outside the area.
“The group has been running for well over a year now and it’s been going really well.
“We do all sorts of songs, from musical films to the 60s, 70s and 80s.
“All of the members really enjoy it because it’s something to keep them busy.
“It would just make it a lot easier for us if we got a coach to help us out.”
