A young football team proved to be unbeatable for the entire season as they won their league without losing a single game.

Shotton Colts Under 13 football team won all of their 24 matches and scored 146 goals while letting in just 15.

They won the Russell Foster Tyne and Wear U13 Youth League Division 2 on 72 points, 14 points more than their nearest rival.

The team, which trains every Thursday at Shotton Community Park in Shotton Colliery, had an extraordinary goal difference of +131.

Coach Alan Forster, who has trained the team since they were about seven years old, said all the players are close friends living in the surrounding villages and all attending The Academy at Shotton Hall in Peterlee.

He said: “It’s really good for the lads.

“We have got three or four really good players but the one thing they have is good team players.

“They really know each other and they’re really good friends.

“There is good camaraderie.

“One of the dads said there are good teams in the league and it takes some doing to win the league.

“We also get really good support from the parents and that makes it doable. We couldn’t have done it without them.”
