Arrests after shots in street

TWO people were arrested after shots were fired near a shop in Hartlepool town centre.

Police swooped after reports of gunshots being heard in the York Road area.

Two men aged 30 and 42 were arrested and quizzed by police over the incident on Friday night.

It came after reports someone was shooting at balloons outside a shop in York Road.

Two men were arrested at a nearby address and an air weapon was recovered.

The men were held on suspicion of possessing an air weapon with intent to endanger life.

The 42-year-old was released on bail and is awaiting the outcome of further inquiries.

The 30-year-old was later released without any further action.

The incident took place at around 7.30pm on Friday.
