Arrests after taxi driver attacked

FOUR men have been arrested after a taxi driver was robbed.

Police say the driver was attacked with a weapon and was robbed of a bag of cash and his car keys during at around 8.15pm on Friday, September 14.

Officers are appealing for information following the incident, which took place in Hastings Way, in Billingham.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “The driver had been called to a fare in Hastings Way and when he stopped the taxi he was challenged by a man who threatened him with a weapon.

“He stole a bag of cash along with car keys.”

The spokeswoman said the driver suffered an injury to his hand.

The four suspects were arrested at 9pm on Friday and were taken to be questioned.
