Arrests in ram-raid attempt probe

TWO arrests have been made in connection with a botched ram-raid attempt.

A 4x4 was slammed into the front of the Londis store in Elwick Road, Hartlepool, at the end of April, as reported in the Mail.

Two men, aged 38 and 37, have now been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The incident at 5am on Saturday, April 30, saw a large Mitsubishi car bounce off the shop’s reinforced front that remained relatively intact and nothing was stolen.

Police had been alerted to the crime by a nearby resident who was woken by a loud bang.

Security camera footage showed a man walking along the street and checking the side of the building before an accomplice drove the vehicle over a kerb between bollards and into the shop front.

Both men ran away, leaving the severely damaged 4x4, which police at the time said was stolen.
